What made you decide on the destination/resort/venue?
We both always wanted a destination wedding!  We love to travel and wanted to plan a fun get-away for our friends and family.  We chose The Royal/Gran Caribe because it offered two different resorts (1 adults only and 1 family friendly) which met the needs of our guests.  They also have a-la-carte options which were great if you want to mix and match to come up with your own package!  Also, Nicki recommended them because she said they have lots of experience doing weddings and they are easy to be in contact with via email (both of which were true!).
What was the highlight of the experience and what was the biggest surprise?
The # 1 highlight for me was having 75 amazing friends and family show up for our destination wedding.  My # 2 highlight was the light-up dance floor at our wedding reception...I could have danced all night!  And the biggest surprise was how AMAZING the food at the wedding was.  Some of our friends even said it was the best wedding food they have ever had.
If your best friend were planning a destination wedding what would your advice be to her?
Even if you don't hear back right away from the wedding planners, don't be alarmed.  They handled everything perfectly the day of the wedding.  Our wedding coordinator (Elizabeth) was awesome.  She answered every one of my detailed questions via email and was very accommodating once we were in Mexico!  She was around the entire day to make sure things ran smoothly.  She even got the resort next door to turn down their music during the ceremony!
Was there anything that you would change looking back?
As much as I loved having the 2 resorts to meet the needs of our family and friends, it was a little annoying at times going back and forth between them to see all our guests.  I felt bad for some people who stayed at the family friendly resort who were not able to get into the adult's only resort.
